Event Description

The Nonprofit Consultants Institute is a two-day, highly interactive course that will provide concrete tools and practical knowledge needed to build and sustain a successful consulting practice. The Institute will educate, inspire, and support consultants dedicated to the highest professional and ethical standards.

 

Who should attend?

o   Individuals launching a consulting practice for nonprofits

o   Established consultants who wish to build their business, enhance their skills, and connect with a community of like-minded professionals

o   Students of nonprofit management who are considering consulting as their professional focus

o   Staff at institutions that provide management support to nonprofits.

 

What Will Be Covered?

The consultants who designed the institute have more than 80 years experience combined as executives and consultants in the nonprofit sector. The presenters are consultants and specialized professionals who offer proven guidance from the field. The course is divided into two key components, The Business of Being in Business and The Art and Craft of Consulting.

The Business of Being in Business will share essential and practical guidance for developing a successful consulting practice. The Art and Craft of Consulting will address best practices for communicating with clients, working collaboratively, problem solving, and ethical standards.

 

Participants will:

o   Identify their unique selling proposition (USP)

o   Understand the basic components of a business plan built upon their USP with sales, marketing & evaluation components

o   Learn about various legal, accounting and tax considerations that affect consultants

o   Develop skills to manage common challenges of consulting (establishing fees and contracts, avoiding scope creep, finding clients, etc.)

o   Work with experienced consultants and peers to learn proven methods for establishing and maintaining successful client/consultant engagements

o   Share their own experiences – triumphs and challenges – in working with nonprofit clients

o   Receive access to a wealth of resource materials on a wide range of consulting-related issues

o   Join an established community of practice

o   Help develop a shared code of ethics

The Institute will meet from 9:00am until 4:30pm both days. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Cancellation Policy:

1. If written (email) notice of cancellation is received at least 7 days in advance (by 5pm on April 25), attendees may receive a full refund;

2. If written (email) notice of cancellation is received at least 3 business days in advance (by 5pm on April 27), refunds will be provided minus a cancellation charge of 15%;

3. No refunds can be issued for cancellations less than 3 business days in advance; however, registrants may send an alternate attendee in their place.
